What Is Ghost Mannequin Video?
Ghost mannequin — also called the invisible or hollow-man effect — shows a garment holding its own shape with no model and no mannequin inside it. The neckline is open, the inside of the collar is visible, and the shape reads as a real worn garment rather than flat-laid fabric.
On stills it is a standard studio technique: shoot the garment on a mannequin, shoot the inside separately, and composite the two. On video it is a different job. The mannequin has to be tracked and painted out across every frame, and the inner collar has to stay locked to the garment as it turns.
Ghost mannequin retouching for stills is a commodity, priced by the image and turned around overnight. The video version is not the same job at a higher price: a static neck plate warps as the garment rotates, and edges that sit still in a photograph jitter from frame to frame. It is rotoscoping and clean-plate work, which is why we quote it by the hour rather than by the image.
